LISBON, PORTUGAL
I first visited Lisbon in the summer of 2019. Didn’t it seem like everyone was headed there then?
As Portugal is seemingly getting its arse out of a recession, tourists are flocking to the country to savour vinho verde and pasteis (not necessarily condoning you sample those two together, but like… not opposed to it either).
STAY
We stayed in a beautiful Air BnB and the ONLY thing I would suggest is make sure your accommodations have A/C. There’s nothing worse than coming in to a damp/hot room after a full day of shvitzing around town.
EAT
Time Out Market
Michelin star chefs all in one market, definitely worth it for lunch.
Cervejaria Ramiro
MUST VISIT, Anthony Bourdain covered this place on his show and it blew up. Note that if you’re there in August/September, it might be closed.
Pastéis de Belém
We didn’t go there, but we heard great things and SO many people recommended this to us.
Taberna da Rua das Flores
My advice is to put your name down early on in the evening and walk around. The menu changes daily (sometimes even hourly), but it was one of the best meals ever.
Meson Andaluz
Wine and tapas sitting on city steps: only charming in Lisbon.
DO
Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara
This is arguably the best lookout of the whole city. You can also stop at one of the convenience stores close by and buy a bottle of wine. You should take it and watch the sunset at this awesome view!
Cascais
45 minute train ride. Worth it for the beach!
Castelo de São Jorge + Flea Market
Really cool, massive castle pretty much in the middle of the city. Also loved the flea market that happens around the castle.
