TULUM, MEXICO

I first went to Tulum in 2018 — and back then, things were different. Ash and I were in Palm Beach this winter and we decided on a last minute trip.

I still loved it this time around, but I wasn’t into all the partying and loudness (lol), so I’m going to solely focus on the food in this updated guide.

STAY

Air BnB all the way — I like staying in La Velleta because it’s quieter and not on the main beach strip.

This past trip, we stayed at Coconut Living and our host Paulina was amazing. She even had a little scooter that comes with the rental to get around.

I did a TikTok to showcase the interior here.

EAT

Encantada

The beach is exclusive to hotel guests, but the food was decent here.

Casa Malca

Pablo Escobar’s mansion — definitely recommend as the restaurant is tasty and the beach has the cleanest white sand on the strip.

Casa Jaguar

Restaurant in the jungle; a must. They cook in a wood-burning oven, so I had a full fish and it was buttery goodness. It was opened on 11/11/11 by a mother and son, and the decor feels perfectly imperfect, in the least obnoxious way.

Raw Love

Solid breakfast spot.

Habitas

Ideal beach club to spend a day.

Hartwood

I’ve read the cookbook and tried getting a reservation here in 2018, but couldn't because we were a party of like 12 (lol).

Kitchen Table

Verdant

Small plates and best cocktails from their garden

Arca

Ka’an Tulum

Cetli

Taqueria Honorio

Burrito Amor

TacoBish

BOMB tacos — love this place, it’s 12/10.

Tacos on Calle 7 Sur — (not the official name, I just can’t remember and it’s too new to be on Google).

Calle 7 sur, C. 6 Sur esquina, La Veleta, 77760 Tulum, Q.R., Mexico — you can put the address of the YENU Pet Shop to get there. It’s a courtyard with black shipping container stalls. We ate here several times because it was close to the Air BnB and the burritos/tacos were that good.

DO

Nightlife

If you're looking for nightlife, I'd recommend either beach parties or heading to Calle Centauro in town where bars open to the street where the party continues.

Cenotes

We went to the Cenote Dos Ojos for a tour — would recommend as it’s unlike anything I’ve experienced in North America.

Yaan Wellness

Some morning yoga to offset the drinking?

TIPS

Bring Mexican Pesos — USD and credit cards are widely accepted, but they’ll charge a fee + exchange rate is shit.

If you’re considering doing a cenote, wake up early and go before 10 AM.
