STAY
Air BnB in Avignon — Avignon, France
It’s likely the least expensive option, but you need a rental car to go to all the small towns across the region.
Sous Les Figuiers — St-Rémy-de-Provence, France
This is a B&B that my family used to stay at. Rooms are private villas and they’re all under fig trees (hence the name)… so in the mornings, we’d wake up and pick figs for breakfast.
Chèvrerie de Rilley — Orléans, France
Tiny home. Goat farm.
Château de Germigney — Dijon, France
This was an EXPERIENCE.
EAT
Le Violette — Avignon, France
Family-run restaurant with Asian-inspired dishes. I know it sounds a bit weird for the South of France, but it was one of our favourites.
Bèou — Avignon, France
Super cute bistro — the ambiance was cute.
Maison Jeunet par Steven Naessens — 2 Michelin Star in the Château de Germigney
This was truly an unreal experience — I’ve eaten at a few Michelin Star restaurants, but never at a restaurant with two Michelin Stars. We experienced the 10-course tasting menu.
Frédéric Cassel — Fontainebleau, France
Highlight of my life these macarons lol.
DO
Les Figuières
A fig farm family-owned and operated. Sample different varieties of figs and meet the patriarch of the family who started it all.
Île-sur-Sorgues Market
Food, antiques, vintage… my heaven. Go in the morning (I’m talking like 8-9 AM to find parking and before it gets too hectic).
There are so many markets in the South, I would highly recommend you search the towns you’ll be in/are close to and check out their schedules as they’re often open on specific days/times.
Lavender Field
Provence is full of them (and you don’t necessarily need to book a tour or pay to see one).
Vineyard Tours
If you’re in the Rhône Valley or in Burgundy, I’d recommend a tour!
