MIAMI, FLORIDA
I really have to be in a mood to enjoy Miami. If I’m feeling like a recluse, it’s probably not the vibe and I’d likely be hiding out at our place in Palm Beach.
STAY
Coral Gables and Coconut Grove
If you’re not into staying right on South Beach or being in the heart of everything, I’d recommend either of those neighbourhoods (Air BnB has some good options).
EAT
Sanguich
Best Cubano by far — if you’re going on the weekend, there’s likely to be a line. Worth the wait in my opinion. Cubano is my fave, but the lechon is really yummy. Didn’t love the bistec.
La Sandwicherie
Best sandwiches by the beach. It’s packed so be ready to wait — the French couple that owns it are no BS, so have a look at the menu before you reach the register lol.
Joe’s Stone Crab
Couldn’t not include!!!
Carbone
Spicy rigatoni is delicious, but nothing else really stood out to me. The caesar salad was powdery (only way I can describe it) and it’s what I would describe as assembled table-side (the seasoning was pre-made and just dumped into the bowl with all other salad components).
COTE
I don’t even like K-BBQ and I LOVE this place. Wagyu paella is delicious and I’d suggest picking your own meats vs the Butcher’s Feast. Waiters and staff are amazing — understandable why they have a Michelin star.
Do
Dante’s Hifi+
A vinyl record listening experience that’s definitely worth checking out — my advice? Buy tickets in advance because it secures you a table + the ticket price goes towards your tab for the night… so it’s like you pre-paid for drinks… so they’re basically free #girlmath.
Renting Bikes
Checkout sights and/or the different beaches.
Miami Design District
Good high-end shopping — such a big place though, can be overwhelming. I’d go in with a plan and map out where stores are beforehand!
Miami Heat Game
Tickets are cheaper in the States (or perhaps it’s my experience having lived in Toronto and Montreal) and it’s a good time.
Art Basel
Not really a place, but it’s my favourite time in Miami — there’s art everywhere and the city’s a good time. Of course, it is such an international event so the city’s traffic is HELL, but it’s worth it if you go into it knowing that.
Florida Keys
It’s such a beautiful drive and a nice break from the city. If you have a car or can rent one, this is worth it. It’s about 1h30m, so it can definitely be done in a day.
Marco Island
Situated on the West Coast of Florida, Marco Island is stuuuunning. It’s on the Gulf of Mexico, so the water is crystal clear. It’s about 2h from Miami, so it’s doable in a day, but I’d recommend staying there or in Naples (on the mainland, about 30m away from the island).
